Carsharing's popularity grows

Getting to work in a big city is no easy matter, but one popular saying
has a solution, "taking bus is too crowded, getting a taxi is too
expensive, buying a car is not practical, better to share a car with
others."

Now arranging to car share, or car pool, is easier than ever before,
thanks to the proliferating number of specialized companies and websites
arriving on the scene as the popularity of car-pooling grows.

Lots of car owners are opting to share their cars, due to the rising
costs of gas. Not only does car pooling save them money, it also makes
full use of their car and helps them make new friends.

Participants get to enjoy the luxury of riding in a private car and save
up to 70% of their transport costs.

Car pooling also helps to ease traffic jams by decreasing the number of
cars on the road and increasing the number of people in each car.

Many countries, like Germany and Singapore, encourage their residents to
car-pool by levying fines on any private cars found on the road at peak
hour with just one driver.

Zhang Guo Qiang, who returned from abroad, raves about car-pooling,
saying it saves the owner money and economically solves the problem of
how to get to work.

But anyone thinking of trying this new form of transport should be aware
that there are a number of issues they will need to resolve. Like what
will happen if the car is late or if there is an accident. Who will
protect the passengers' rights? As more and more people start to share
their rides, the answers to these questions will become clearer.
